The cycle life determines the number of charge/discharge cycles that the battery can experience before it reaches a predetermined energy capacity or other performance criteria. The cycle life of Li-ion batteries is affected significantly by the depth of discharge. The depth of discharge is the amount of a battery’s storage capacity that is utilized since it is originally calculated by the manufacturer based on the specific charge and discharge conditions.

What factors affect the cycle life of lithium-ion batteries?

Lithium-ion batteries can have between 500 to 10,000 cycles.

  1. Use the device on-battery as little as possible.
  2. The same as 1. but from a different perspective: Don’t use the battery to its extremes.
  3. Get familiar with the settings on your phone-OS that considerably impact battery life.
